ABOUT ABOUT

Members' Day Trip: Art in Charlotte
Members only; $150 per person (lunch included).

Join fellow members for a day trip to Charlotte! We’ll start the day at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture with independent exploration; view profound abstract painting and mixed-media in The Future is Abstract, contemplate Zun Lee’s intimate black-and-white photography, or (and!) enjoy detailed portraits from Harlem-based artist Jordan Casteel and works by renowned artist Alison Saar.

Next we’ll head to nearby Mint Museums Uptown for a tour of State of The Art, an ambitious survey of contemporary American art assembled in 2013 by the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Lunch at the Mint Museum’s restaurant, Halcyon, promises “a true seasonal dining experience” with selections from local and regional artisanal farms.

We’ll close the afternoon at the Mint Museum’s Randolph location with a tour of The Wyeths: Three Generations, an exhibition exploring the careers of five of the family’s artists through more than 50 remarkable paintings and drawings. Members may recognize Andrew Wyeth’s work Farm Pond, in the Reynolda House collection, which was featured in our recent exhibition, Grant Wood and the American Farm.
