About the Musicians:

Jose Luis Martínez was born in Bogotá, Colombia. He belongs to a very talented brotherhood of famous Colombian musicians. The tradition has been to learn to play the Tiple in a self-taught way and Jose Luis has mastered this technique and interpretation at the highest levels in Colombia. The new generation of Tiple artists have focused on musical studies. Jose Luis won First Place at the 1975 Colombian National Tiple contest, and since that time, he has been performing and acting as a judge in several important National Colombian music festivals. During the last 30 years, he has been considered one of the best Tiple players in Colombia. Performing as both a soloist and member of very well-known musical groups he has recorded 12 CD’s.

At the international level, Jose Luis has been traveling worldwide, showcasing the rich beautiful sound of the Tiple, performing in Europe, United States (Saint Louis, Miami, and New York City), both South and Central America, and Africa. Accumulating more than 600 concerts as soloist and the group leader with “Opus 3” Trio, “Camerata Colombiana” and “Vivace Instrumental," we are most fortunate to have him visit North Carolina.

Alberto Puentes was born in Bogotá, Colombia. His first music lessons were given by his father. His initial music studies were at the National Pedagógica University in Bogota. From 1994 to 2005 he performed internationally as a member of “Camerata Colombiana” (joining Jose Luis), and offering over 300 concerts and producing 5 CD’s. In 2005 Alberto immigrated to the USA and performed in Cincinnati, Dayton, Chicago and Miami as a Tiple soloist. He has performed concerts in Mexican and Latino celebrations on TV shows, and at universities and festivals. Alberto moved to Savannah, GA in January 2011 and performed at social clubs, galleries, universities, and private parties. As of today, he continues to spread his love of music in Colombia.
