Pianist Rossano Sportiello was conservatory trained in Italy and began performing in jazz clubs in Milan at age sixteen before touring throughout Europe with the historic Milano Jazz Gang. He emerged as a solo artist, winning the 2009 Acsona (Switzerland) Jazz Award in recognition of his stride piano expertise. Bassist Frank Tate was the leader of the house band at Blues Alley in Washington, D.C. before moving to New York to join Marian McPartland in 1975. He is a founding member of the Alden-Barrett Quintet and has played with jazz notables Benny Goodman, Zoot Sims, Teddy Wilson, Joe Venuti, and Pearl Baily.
